Brockton Firefighter Matt Parziale Makes U.S. Open Cut

Matt Parziale has more golf to play this weekend.

SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. — Brockton firefighter Matt Parziale will play more golf this weekend at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club.

Parziale made the 36-hole cut at the U.S. Open with a 74 in the first round and a 73 in the second round. He's tied for 45th halfway through the tournament and his +7 is a stroke above the cut of +8.

Parziale had some early trouble Friday, shooting three bogeys on the first seven holes. He shot two more on the back nine, but got his score down with birdies on the fifth and 18th holes.

The part-time golfer, full-time firefighter originally made headlines during the Masters, which he was invited to after winning the US Mid-Amateur Championship.

Parziale's tee time for Saturday has not been announced.
