BROCKTON, MA — A suspect in the 2020 murder of a Brockton man pleaded not guilty in Brockton Superior Court Wednesday, said Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz in a news release.

Takari Elliot, 29, is facing one count of Murder and gun charges, said Cruz. He is being held without bail and is next scheduled to appear in court May 5.

Elliot and a second suspect who has not been located, Marvin Veiga, 32, were indicted by a Plymouth County grand jury on murder and multiple firearm possession and assault charges in March.

The charges against Elliot and Veiga stem from a shooting on October 13, 2020, when police responded to several rounds fired near 94 Belmont Ave. in Brockton and found Manuel Duarte, 25, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Although several friends attempted to help him, he was later pronounced dead at Good Samaritan Medical Center.

Detectives are continuing to search for Veiga, who is considered armed and dangerous, said Cruz. He has tattoos on his face and neck and is believed to be driving a newer model silver SUV with an out-of-state license. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 1-800-527-8873.
