Brockton Loses To Quincy In Baseball Season Opener, 3-2
Despite strong pitching from Brockton's starting pitcher Chris Carbonara, Brockton lost the game.
BROCKTON, MA- The Brockton Boxers baseball team played the Quincy Presidents on Saturday Afternoon for their season opener. Quincy previously played their first game against Hanover, in a walk-off by the score of 6-5.
Starting on the mound were Brockton senior captain Chris Carbonara and Quincy had Devin Desmond.
In the first inning, Desmond of Quincy reached first base on an error on a dribbler on second base. Then, he stole second, took third and scored at home on wild pitches by Carbonaro. Score was 1-0 at the end of the first inning.

At the top of the second inning, Brockton’s Nico Vega has a two-out game tying RBI with the bases loaded, and Dom Hopkins scored the run. Desmond picked off a runner at second base, and then he faked a pickoff at first and then caught the runner leaning at third base.
At the bottom of the second inning, Quincy’s second baseman Kellen Kopp got an RBI off a sacrifice fly in which Quincy relief pitcher Matt Kelly scored the run to take back the lead, 2-1.

At the top of the third inning, Brockton tied the game at 2 when Carbonara reached on a dropped third strike and then scored on a wild pitch from Quincy’s Matt Kelly.
At the bottom of the third inning, Carbonara struck out the side but on the second out was a dropped third stike and Nick Ferrara reached the first base. Ferrara stole second and third and then scored on a single by Coleman Rose. The score Quincy lead the game 3-2.
In the fourth inning, Kellen Kopp had a sliding catch on out three and helped Quincy stop a run by stranding a runner on third.
No other runs were scored in the last three innings and Quincy won the game 3-2.
Quincy relief pitcher Matt Kelly was the winning pitcher, and Zach Donahue earned the save for the Presidents, when he pitched the seventh inning, he allowed one walk and then turned a double play to end the game. Quincy’s Daniel Freeman recorded a hold when he pitched the fifth and sixth innings and stranded a baserunner in scoring position in both innings.
Despite the loss, Brockton’s Carbonara struck out ten batters in five innings with allowing three walks, hit 2 batters, and allowed three hits in the game.
The Boxers’s next game will be on Wednesday against New Bedford High at 4 p.m. start time.
