Brockton Man Loses Battle With Heroin Addiction on Christmas Day

Michael F. Sprague Jr., 27, passed away after a heroin overdose on Christmas.

BROCKTON, MA — A Brockton man who lost his battle with addiction on Christmas was remembered this week.

Michael F. Sprague Jr., 27, of Brockton, died on Christmas morning from a heroin overdose, following a long hard battle with addiction, according to his obituary.

Sprague was a 2007 graduate of Brockton High School and a member of Teamsters Union Local #25. An avid sports and New England Patriots fan, his obituary said he enjoyed playing football and Brockton Youth Hockey. He was also a dedicated MMA and boxing trainer. He also loved reading, working out and spending time with his friends.

He leaves behind his parents Michael F. Sprague Sr. of Brockton and Lisa Marie (Casarano) Sprague of Whitman; siblings Rachel and Jake Sprague of Whitman; grandparents Mary “Dolly” Sprague of Brockton and the late Kenneth P. Sprague Sr., and Rosemarie Reppucci of Bridgewater and the late Nicholas M. Casarano;

Calling hours were held Thursday at Waitt Funeral Home in Brockton and the funeral mass was held Friday at St. Edith Stein Church, with burial taking at Calvary Cemetery.
