Brockton Officials To Participate In Program To Prevent Evictions

The Eviction Prevention Learning Lab is a networking program to help municipal officials learn about the best ways to prevent evictions.

BROCKTON, MA — Brockton housing employees are taking part in an innovative national program to help prevent evictions in the city, said Mayor Robert F. Sullivan in a news release Monday.

The Eviction Prevention Learning Lab, sponsored by the National League of Cities, was established earlier this year as a way for municipal officials nationwide to network and learn about the best practices, policies, and tools to prevent evictions.

“Keeping Brockton residents in their homes is one of my top priorities,” said Sullivan in a statement. “As we recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s imperative that we find effective ways to solve the local housing crisis, support tenants in need, protect landlords and property owners from financial distress and rebuild our communities.”

As part of the program, Brockton officials will join regular work sessions and participate in quarterly Learning Lab Meetings with experts and organizations working in the housing field. Topics that will be covered include racial equality, strengthening relationships between tenants, landlords, courts, and community stakeholders, and creating effective housing policies.

Brockton is partnering with the Brockton Redevelopment Authority, Metro South Housing Court, NeighborWorks Housing Solutions, Justice Center of Southeast MA, Old Colony YMCA, Father Bill's Mainspring House, and Community Connections & Family Center to localize the program.
