Dog Named Katz Left At Groomer; Eye Patch-Wearing Woman Sought

Police couldn't find the woman's name in their database. The dog, who may need surgery, needs a new home. His name is William Katz.

EAST BRIDGEWATER, MA — Police are searching for an eye patch-wearing woman who allegedly gave a fake name when she dropped off a sick dog at a town groomer last week.

The woman, who gave the name Melanie Wichester, dropped off an old English bulldog named William Katz at the Secret Garden Pet Resort last Thursday, East Bridgewater Police Chief Scott Allen said. When police ran the name through their database after she never came back for the dog, no results came up.

Police said the woman had an eye patch on her right eye, long red hair, is about 5 feet 6 inches, and is in her mid-40s. She was wearing a gray t-shirt with blue jeans on Aug. 23. She was caught on surveillance, but it's unknown how she arrived at the groomer.

As for William Katz, the dog was covered in pressure sores and suffering from skin, eye, and ear infections when he arrived. A vet suggested surgery to relieve his ear pain.

He will be transferred to Long Island Bulldog Rescue Thursday. You can look into adopting William Katz, an older dog who suddenly finds himself without a home, by clicking here. (If you adopt him, please email mike.carraggi@patch.com and let us know!)
