Downtown Brockton Walk Audit

MassINC and WalkBoston are conducting walk assessments in communities like Brockton to inform the city’s policies and funding, as well as educate the state about priority investments in our smaller cities. To gather safely, we are hosting two community Zoom sessions (attendance at both is requested to complete the exercise) and invite you to share your feedback, photos and videos with us from your own walks around the downtown.

• Session 1: April 15th, 6:00-7:30pm
• Self-led walk: observations due by April 23rd
• Session 2: April 29th, 6:00-7:30pm

Why is walkability important for Brockton? Most customers to local businesses come from nearby, which is why increasing foot traffic downtown is so important for them to survive and thrive. And more foot traffic means a safer, more interesting public life. For residents, a more walkable city can also mean less reliance on cars, which can be expensive to own and maintain, along with improved health from both walking and less polluted air. Better sidewalks, streets, transportation, trees, and public spaces create a better quality of life. More things to do leads to more businesses and housing which creates the property taxes that the City uses to invest in neighborhoods, schools and other services.
