"The Luckiest Store On The South Shore" Sees Mega Millions Boom

When big lottery prizes are up for grabs, people from as far as Dedham and Norwood come to Whitman for a chance for riches.

WHITMAN, MA — An hour into Michael Fiorentino's shift Monday night, the Little Comfort Store had already sold $1,500 in Mega Millions tickets. Coolers and shelve were beginning to empty; business was booming.

Nights likes this are common for the self-proclaimed "luckiest store on the South Shore," especially before gigantic lottery drawings like Tuesday's $1.6 billion prize. In Fiorentino's 17 years working at the Little Comfort Store, the store has sold three one $1 million tickets.

Two of those tickets were actually sold to the same person. Another person won $100,000 off a ticket bought at Little Comfort this past July, Fiorentino said.

"It's a happy dream — it's just thinking about it that gets your spirit rolling," Fiorentino said.
