More Than 7K Without Power In MA After Storm

Severe thunderstorms ripped through the area, pelting hail and producing gusts of wind up to 60 miles per hour.

BRIDGEWATER, MA — More than 7,000 homes and businesses are without power after thunderstorms ripped through south east Massachusetts.

In Bridgewater, 3,111 were left without power after winds gusting up to 60 miles per hour and hail the size of coins pelted the area. In neighboring Halifax, some 2,695 were without lights.

Wind damage was reported across Plymouth, Middleborough and Norfolk and Middlesex counties from Townsend to Medfield to Brockton and East Bridgewater, according to the National Weather Service.

The storm is moving off toward Nantucket Sound, Buzzards Bay and Vineyard Sound, where the National Weather Service is issuing a severe thunderstorm alert until around 6 p.m.
