BROOKLINE, MA β€” Coronavirus cases continue to drop across the country while the number of those who are fully vaccinated continues to rise, which means there is even more reason to celebrate this Independence Day. July 4 is almost here, so it's time to find out what Fourth of July fireworks and festivities are going on near you.

Brookline has traditionally enjoyed the fireworks display that happens in neighboring Boston or Newton, and this year is no exception. Here's the rundown, so you can start planning now.

Here's what's in store this July 4 in Boston:

For decades, Brookline residents have picnicked atop Corey Hill or at Larz Anderson Park to catch a glimpse of the fireworks careening across the sky above the Charles River, although tree growth has made the view a little less perfect in recent years. It's unclear if the fireworks will be visible this year from those two spots.

The other Boston tradition, is the Boston Pops concert. And that's different this year, too.

The Boston Pops concert will start at 8 p.m. but won't be on the Esplanade this year, they'll be way out in Tanglewood. Tanglewood officials said they would limit capacity to 9,000 people. Free tickets will be available on the Boston Symphony Orchestra site beginning June 21.

Fireworks have been canceled in neighboring Newton this year on account of the pandemic. But July 3 and July 4, there are still a few family friendly events in store there to check out.
