Actress Julianne Moore Honored At Coolidge Corner Theatre

Julianne Moore, the legendary actress, was honored with the annual Coolidge Award Thursday night.

BROOKLINE, MA β€” If you haven't walked past the Coolidge Corner Theatre recently, you may have missed the signals: the posters, the special screening of her latest film, "Gloria Bell." It all points to the actress Julianne Moore.

On Thursday evening at 8 p.m., the Academy Award-winning actress walked onstage and welcomed a packed audience into her thoughts on acting, her memories of the Brookline Art Deco movie house and family.

"My daughter, when I asked her why she didn't go out for the play she said 'because that's for losers, mom,'" Moore shared to laughter in the audience.

She was then presented with the Coolidge Corner Theatre's 13th annual Coolidge Award.

"We're delighted to have her here," Katherine Tallman, executive director of the Coolidge Corner Theatre, told Patch recently.

Among her awards, she has won an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award, a Daytime Emmy Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, two Golden Globe Awards and two Screen Actors Guild Awards.

She and Juliette Binoche are the only two actresses to win the European "Best Actress Triple Crown" for wins at the Berlin, Cannes and Venice film festivals.

She began her film career in the early β€˜90s and quickly emerged as an independent film darling, boasting both perfectly nuanced and dynamic tour-de-force performances.
She collaborated with such directors as Robert Altman (Short Cuts), Louis Malle (Vanya on 42nd Street), Todd Haynes (Safe, Far From Heaven, I’m Not There), Paul Thomas Anderson (Boogie Nights, Magnolia), Joel and Ethan Cohen (The Big Lebowski), Lisa Cholodenko (The Kids Are All Right), Tom Kalin (Savage Grace), and Alfonso CuarΓ³n (Children of Men). Moore has received multiple awards for her work including an Academy Award, Golden Globe, SAG, and BAFTA in 2015 for Best Actress for her performance in Still Alice.
In addition to her prolific acting career, Julianne Moore is an activist and supporter of gun safety laws, LGBTQ rights and Pay Equality for women.
