Natick man charged with operating under the influence.

Police arrested a Natick man on drunken driving charges Thursday after he reportedly called 911 and asked for direction to a Jamaica Plain hospital

David Michael Mazzarini, 56, reportedly called state police on his cell phone around 2 p.m. on Aug. 12 to ask for directions to Faulkner Hospital. Suspecting the caller was drunk, dispatchers told Brookline police to watch out for an impaired driver near Buckmister Road.

An officer reportedly observed Mazzarini abruptly change lanes and stray into the breakdown lane on Route 9 and pulled him over on Crafts Road. When the officer approached the car, Mazzarini was still on the phone with dispatchers.

According to police, Mazzarini could not climb out his seat without steadying himself on the car frame and had to be taken away on a stretcher. In one of the cup holders, police reportedly found a bottle of Propel flavored water mixed with alcohol.

Mazzarini was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, having an open container of alcohol, violating marked lanes and having an expired inspection sticker.
