Bank Robbed on Lower Beacon Street

Robbery is town's third in as many weeks.

An unarmed man robbed the Brookline Bank on lower Beacon Street earlier this afternoon, marking the third such robbery in the town in as many weeks.

Police say a Hispanic in his mid 30s walked into the bank at 1016 Beacon St. around 3:15 this afternoon and later fled on foot toward Park Drive. Witnesses said he was 5-foot-7 to 6 feet tall, had a chubby build and wore a black hat and jacket.

That description is similar to one given by witnesses at Sovereign Bank, which was robbed by another unarmed man around 12 p.m. on Feb. 4. The Citizens bank in Coolidge Corner was also robbed on Jan. 26, but the suspect in that case was described as a white man.
