Brookline Arrests: Three Alleged Drunk Drivers in Four Days

Reports for Aug. 2 - 9.

The following reports detail all Brookline Police Department arrests from Aug. 2 - 9. Suspects are innocent until proven guilty.

Tuesday, Aug. 3
  • Warrants – Vannice Jean McCray, 58, was arrested around 4:15 p.m. on the 1700 block of Beacon Street on several warrants. Officer Noah Brother made the arrest.
Thursday, Aug. 5
  • Extortion – Richard F. Joyce, 58, of 238 Broadway Road, Dracut, was arrested around 8:30 p.m. near Aspinwall Avenue and Harvard Street and charged with extortion and joint venture in assault by means of a dangerous weapon. Read the full story. Detective Matthew McDonnell made the arrest.
Friday, Aug. 6
  • Domestic Assault & Battery –Neal Glennon Murphy, 29, of 1470 Beacon Street, Apt. 36, was arrested around 2:15 a.m. at his home and charged with domestic assault and battery. Michael Disario made the arrest.
  • Under The Influence – Mario J. Mazariegos, 27, of 112 Spencer Ave., #1, was arrested around 8:45 p.m. on the 1600 block of Beacon Street and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol. Police were called to a parking lot behind the Fireplace Restaurant on reports of someone having a seizure and reportedly found Mazariegos in a haphazardly parked car. Paramedics told police Mazariegos was drunk and was not having a seizure. He reportedly had trouble standing and braced himself by holding on to the car while talking with officers. He reportedly failed a field sobriety test and refused to take a breath test to determine is blood alcohol level. Officer Brian Sutherland made the arrest.
Saturday, Aug. 7
  • Domestic Assault & Battery – Amadeu Tolentino, 31, of 6102 Lexington Ridge, Lexington, was arrested around 2:45 a.m. on Egmont Street and charged with domestic assault and battery. Officer Michael Fay made the arrest.
  • Under the Influence – Cory Szostowski, 25, of 149 Harvey Road, West Chester, PA, was arrested around 3:30 a.m. near Washington Street and White Place and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, leaving the scene of an accident, open container and marked lane violations. Szostowski was reportedly stopped after an officer heard the sound of a collision near Coolidge Corner and spoke with a woman who said she had just been rear-ended by a car with Pennsylvania license plates. When the officer attempted to stop Szostowski later in Brookline Village, he allegedly stopped the car on the left side of Washington Street before pulling over to the correct side of the road. Police reported that Szostowski had bloodshot, glassy eyes and slurred speech. Officers conducted a field sobriety test, which Szostowski reportedly failed. Officer Brendan Kelliher made the arrest.
Monday, Aug. 9
  • Warrants – Peter John Fedders, 19, of 67 Old Mill Road, Leominster, was arrested around 2:15 p.m. at Bournewood Hospital on several outstanding warrants out of Dudley. Officer Joseph Amendola made the arrest.
Tuesday, Aug. 10
  • Under the Influence – Janie Piper, 46, of 33 Waverly St., Brookline, was arrested around 2 a.m. near Harvard Street and Aspinwall Avenue and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol. Piper was reportedly pulled over she attempted to drive through a construction site at Harvard and School streets and could not understand a detail officer's instructions for driving around the site. Another officer recalled seeing Piper propped up by another man as she stumbled through Coolidge Corner earlier in the night. When stopped, Piper allegedly had glassy, bloodshot eyes and smelled of alcohol. She reportedly failed a sobriety test after several attempts and refused to take a breath test to determine her blood alcohol level. Officer Duane Danforth made the arrest.
