BROOKLINE, MA β€” There's more snow in the forecast today and Friday for Brookline. Although it's set to be a long storm, it's not going to be very disruptive, according to forecasters.

Meteorologists say the sticking snow is likely to start falling late Thursday afternoon, through Friday leaving Brookline with between 7 and 10 inches of accumulation by Friday night. Brookline Public Works officials say they expect it will be on the lower end of that range.

National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory beginning at noon today until 7 p.m. Feb. 19.

"This is going to be an extended event over a 30+ hour period," said Public Works Commissioner Erin Gallentine. "The snow will accumulate slowly and sporadically over this extended pattern. Long duration events such as this require a significant amount of product on the roads and long hours for public works employees to treat the roads, parking lots, Town managed sidewalks, crossings, public grounds and other DPW managed areas. "

Gallentine said in order to prepare for this storm, her department pretreated roadways with brine, ensured that the salt shed was well stocked, mounted all plows and assigned the crews staggered shifts.

"Public Works is ready to go!" she said. "Every snow event is different, but the key factor here is the duration."

Because this storm is not likely to bring as much wind with it, and forecasters expect the snow around greater Boston to be light and fluffy for today, there's less of a chance for cancellations or emergency parking restrictions, but we'll update if there are any changes.
