Brookline looking to lock in energy prices through 2014
Move could eventually save town $100,000 a year.
Brookline selectmen have authorized town staff to enter into a new contract that would lock in the town's electricity prices through 2014.
According to the town's energy consultant, Bay State Consultants, energy prices have been declining since July 2008 and are now on par with rates available in 2004. Town officials believe prices will start increasing again as the economy improves.
"The prices in the market right now are so favorable, it's something we want to rush," said Acting Town Administrator Sean Cronin.
