Brookline Teachers Rally To Draw Attention To Contract Talks

BROOKLINE, MA — Brookline teachers union members plan to hold a "stand out" Saturday to call attention to ongoing educators contract negotiations with the Brookline School Committee.

From 9 a.m. to noon, members of the Brookline Educators Union will be in Coolidge Corner "to express their concerns and goals as the union pursues a fair contract with the Brookline School Committee," according to a news release from the union.

The educators say they want less focus on standardized testing, want to commit time and resources to restorative justice practices and want part-time paraprofessionals to be paid more, among other concerns.

“We are trying to build a culture, not bargain a single contract,” said BEU President Jessica Wender-Shubow in a release. “The learning and working conditions that we want to achieve reflect the BEU’s commitment to educating the whole child and meeting all of our students’ academic, social and emotional needs.”
