Brookline Under Flash Flood Watch
National Weather Service reports urban flooding possible as Hurricane Earl sweeps up coast.
The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for much of Massachusetts tonigh as a weakening Hurricane Earl continues barreling up the coast.
Forecasters expect the storm to dump between 1 to 3 inches of rain across the region tonight, though heavier swathes of rain could hit some areas with 3 to 5 inches, potentially causing rapid flooding in urban areas.
The weather service reports that conditions are "favorable" for flash flooding to occur and urges residents to keep an eye on forecasts through tonight.

Brookline has been hit by severe flooding several times this year. Damage caused to town property alone last March was estimated at nearly $1.5 million.
