Brookline's Breadboard Bakery To Move To Arlington

The Cutty's weekend specialty will soon be available In Arlington on a daily basis.

BROOKLINE, MA β€” Fans of Cutty’s weekend β€œBreadboard Bakery” treats have reason to celebrate. Starting this fall, baker Daisy Chow will be opening her own shop in Arlington in the space formerly occupied by Commune Kitchen. Located at 203 Broadway, Chow will be serving up her kolaches, wacky cake, baguettes and a number of different types of breads and croissants.

Chow said when the Arlington space became available it just made sense.

"Lots of families and young people live in Arlington. There's a lot of active people with the bike trail and the pond," she told Patch.

The owners of the Arlington local artisanal pizza favorite announced they will be closing at the end of this week. Breadboard plans to move into the space this summer, making minor renovations.

"Our focus at Breadboard will be on bread as I have been a professional baker at [Clear Flour Bread] for the last gazillion years all while doing my popups. Of course everything you've come to love at the [Cutty's] weekend bakes will still be around," said Chow in a statement. "I will be getting super flaky with croissants, baking more cakes, and trying new stuff."

Chow, who has also worked for Clear Flour Bread for the past decade and a half, began making her unique, artisanal cakes, croissants, and kolaches for Cutty’s weekend as a popup, often selling out the limited, weekend-only supply. Each Breadboard Bakery good is individually hand-made with love by Chow.

The long-time baker grew up in Texas, and moved to Boston years ago after a stop at Columbia's School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, in New York. While in Boston, she fell in love with the science of baking by chance. She got her chops at acclaimed restaurants such as Maison Robert, Locke-Ober, Via Matta, and Ames Street Deli and Formaggio Kitchen.

Chow makes baked goods she likes to eat, and the chocolate "wacky cake" is inspired from her school days in Texas. Her kolaches -a cross between a donut and a danish - are inspired by the West Texas (and Czech) sweet staple.

Her favorite to make? Croissants.

And the woman can make them. Check out one of her croissant cinnamon rolls at Cutty's while you still can, Friday and Saturday.

Look for a fundraiser soon from her to help her afford some professional equipment and an experienced staff.

In 2016, Commune Kitchen brought artisan fast casual to the space formerly occupied by a Mexican restaurant.

Chow expects to fit about 20 seats in the 1,100 square foot space.
