Convicted Murderer from Brookline Gets Life in Prison

A 67-year-old Brookline man convicted last week of murdering his co-worker at a pool supply warehouse will spend the rest of his life in prison, according to yesterday’s decision from a Middlesex Country judge.

Clyde Howard was of several charges on Friday in connection with the 2009 slaying of 33-year-old Maurice Ricketts, who had worked with Howard at Bay State Pool Supply Company in Cambridge. He was sentenced yesterday to life in prison without parole.

Howard and Ricketts reportedly had what the district attorney’s office has called an “ongoing dispute of a personal nature” leading up to the Jan. 28, 2009 shooting, in which Howard brought a gun to work and shot Ricketts repeatedly outside the company’s warehouse on Smith Street in Cambridge.

Ricketts was pronounced dead at the hospital and police found Howard in his van in Roxbury that afternoon.
