Dog Walker in Stable Condition after Perkins Street Accident

A woman struck by an SUV while walking her dog last Friday is now in stable condition at Brigham and Women's Hospital, according to Boston Police.

The woman had been rushed from Perkins Street with what police described as "life-threatening injuries" Friday afternoon after she was thrown onto the hood of a vehicle about a block from the Brookline border. The street, which borders Jamaica Pond, was closed to traffic for several hours while investigators from Boston's homicide unit examined the a red Toyota in the middle of the road.

A witness told police the woman was walking with a dog north across Perkin Street when she was struck by an SUV heading west, according to Boston Police Spokeswoman Jill Flynn.

The women reportedly went up on to the roof of the car and rolled onto the roadway, where responding paramedics found her. The woman was conscious and complaining of pain in her side when officers arrived.

Officers reported that the hood of the car was dented and the windshield cracked. Witnesses told police that the driver was not speeding and was able to stop about a foot after striking the woman.

Flynn said police have not yet cited the driver of the SUV, though their license was suspended following the accident.
