Expect Traffic, Detours On Route 9 In Brookline Village

BROOKLINE, MA β€” Expect detours and more traffic delays than normal at the Route 9 at Brookline Village intersection for the next week, thanks to construction in the area.

The Huntington Avenue at South Huntington is closed to traffic, and all traffic heading into Boston will be detoured to either Pond Avenue or Brookline Avenue, according to police.

Police said to expect such detours for the next five to seven days.

The Brookline Police Department delivered the frustrating reminder message to residents Thursday with a little tongue-in-cheek humor, in an effort to ease the pain.

"As always, our officers will be assigned along the routes and will be able to assist you through this mess," reads a post on Facebook. "Feel free to roll down your windows and share some good music with them. Please steer clear of Phil Collins and Harry Nilsson as 'Against All Odds' and 'Without You' leave us in a puddle of our own tears every damn time."

The department said if any passenger ended up (safely and legally) recording an officer dancing to said music, they should send it to them right away for a free T-shirt.
