Fire Tears Through Wellington Terrace Home
Cypress, Walnut streets blocked off as firefighters continue to battle blaze.
Brookline firefighters continue to battle a blaze that ripped through a century-old home off Cypress Street this morning and left traffic snarled around Route 9 and Whiskey Point.
Few details were available this morning as fire officials continue to direct operations on the scene, but Chief of Operations Michael O'Reilly said he had received no reports of injuries as of 8 a.m. One witness said firefighters had been fighting the fire since 5 a.m. this morning.
O'Reilly said crews were able to knock down flames on the first floor and basement of the home at 5 Wellington Terrace, but the fire had already gotten into the walls and spread to the rest of the house. Smoke was still pouring out of the roof by 8 a.m. and flames could be seen along the eaves of the roof.
