Big budget announcements, controversial traffic calming and a "mixology" night in Chestnut Hill

  • Today is the big day. After months of making for the future of Brookline schools, Brookline’s superintendent will present his budget for the coming fiscal year at a of the School Committee at the tonight.
  • Not to be outdone, the Transportation Board is to discuss, among other things, the for High Street and Pond Avenue. Also on the agenda: Potential traffic fixes on Lancaster Terrace and a request to make Auburn Street one-way only.
  • The series will meet at the tonight to watch this month’s movie, β€œClueless.” The film has been paired with Jane Austen’s β€œEmma,” which will be discussed at the Brookline Main Library late this month.
  • If you’re looking to get your weekend started early, in Chestnut Hill is hosting a with mix master Bill Codman and a Caribbean liquor called Brugal Rum. The Mix 104.1 street team will also be there to provide a soundtrack and handle giveaways.
  • On a more serious note, Brookline author and mother Susan Senator will talk tonight at about her family’s own personal journey and . Admission to the presentation, titled β€œLife, Family and the Pursuit of Happiness,” is $6.
