Library Construction Could Limit Access This Summer
Waterproofing work starts Monday.

Waterproofing work at Brookline's Main Library could make it more difficult for handicapped residents to access the building for brief periods this summer.
The work, which starts tomorrow, July 19, and could last through August, is aimed at sealing a leaky foundation that has occasionally allowed water to seep into the Children's Room in the library's basement.
During the six-week project, crews will excavate nearly 10 feet of earth from the sidewalk in front of the terrace in order to waterproof the foundation. The front steps to the library will be closed from time to time during the project, and library users may need to use the adjacent wheel-chair ramps to access the building.

During a three-day excavation period, the entire front driveway will be closed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and handicapped people will need to use the sidewalk to access the building. Handicapped parking spaces will be provided on Washington Street during the excavation, and on the driveway for the rest of the project.
A stand-along book drop will also be provided throughout the project.
