Man Attempts To Steal Brookline Officer's Car: Police

BROOKLINE, MA β€” After a brief chase near the police station, police arrested a man they said tried to steal an officer's car β€” right in front of the officer Wednesday.

Around 11:30 a.m., while an officer was working a paid detail near the corner of Elm Street and Davis Avenue the officer saw a man get into the officer's car and attempt to steal it, according to police.

Police confronted the man, who took off running near Emerson Park, which is just blocks from the police station, and caught up to him. After what police described as a brief struggle, they were able to place the man, a 40 year old experiencing homelessness, under arrest. They charged him with attempted larceny of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

One officer sustained minor injuries as a result of this arrest, police said, though the man they arrested was not harmed.
