New Restaurant, Ōmori Izakaya Opens In Brookline Village
The doors of the Japanese restaurant in Brookline Village opened Saturday for the grand opening.
BROOKLINE, MA — A new Japanese restaurant has taken over the space formerly occupied by Best Burger Joint in Brookline Village: Ōmori Izakaya's grand opening is today. From 11:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, folks can finally see what it's all about.
The corner spot at 195 Washington St. was previously home to the burger place for about a year, before it shuttered. The owner told Patch the numbers weren't doing it for him as he closed up shop last December. The space has sat empty since then. The new restaurant's owner is banking that people will be more into Japanese snacks and pub food, than they were burgers.
Ōmori's owner Hank Li said he chose the corner spot for its visibility, and has a bit of experience in the restaurant industry, including at nearby New Sushi. Li said the new spot was inspired by Izakaya- a type of pub that serves tapas and drinks found near train stations in Japan where folks stop in after work.

"I believe if we provide great food, great service and a comfortable space to hang out, it will be the best choice for people coming home from work," Li told Patch.
On the menu at Ōmori Izakaya? Watch for everything from sushi to ramen and meat skewers, and sake.
