New Year's Day 2020 In Brookline: What's Open, Closed

Find out what's opening and what's keeping its doors closed on the 2020 holiday.

NEWTON, MA β€” Happy New Year! As you get your resolutions in order and step into the new year, it might be helpful to know what's open and closed. Town offices will be closed on Jan. 1 for New Year's Day, but they will be open normal hours on Thursday, Jan. 2. There will be a one-day delay for trash pickup: Wednesday on Thursday, Thursday on Friday and Friday on Saturday.
Here's a list of what else is opened and closed on the holiday. This list is ever-expanding so feel free to shoot us a note or comment below with more intel.

  • Libraries: Closed
  • Post Office: Closed
  • Restaurants: Open at owner's discretion
    • Zaftig's: New Years Eve closed 2:30 p.m. New Year's Day: 8 a.m. - 9 p.m.
    • Michael's Deli: NYE: closing at 3 p.m. New Year's Day: Open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. ( For the seventh year in a row, only the owner's family will be working)
    • Brother's Restaurant: NYE closes at 12 p.m. New Year's Day: regular hours (7 a.m. -10 p.m.)
    • Magnolia Smokehouse: (yes, they have black eyed peas on their menu). Open at 4 p.m.
  • Retail stores: Open at owner's discretion
  • Supermarkets: Open at owner's discretion
  • Liquor stores: Open
  • Banks: Closed
  • Gas stations: Open
  • Coolidge Corner Theatre: Open
    • What's playing: Little Women, Uncut Gems, Bombshell, A Hidden Life
  • Parking: Free
