Newbury College Is Asking $40 Million: See The Property Listing

BROOKLINE, MA — So you're thinking of buying a college campus? Join the crowd. When Newbury College officials announced late last year it was going to be closing up shop at the end of the school year, ears perked up across the land - from developers to town officials.

It's not often that so much land comes available in town. Although the 14 acre estate of the Reebok founder (going for $38 million) has been on the market now for years, and we've watched the price drop on that property from $90 million to the $38 million in recent months.

The liberal arts school sits on Fisher Hill steps from the Fisher Hill Reservoir Park. It was founded in 1962 and this school year had 627 students enrolled. Tuition was $33,940 for this school year, but some 92 percent of students get some form of financial aid, according to the school. The average financial aid award: $31,152.

The campus is just under 8 acres of land and includes about eight buildings, including the recently renovated student center. It's been listed for nearly two months, now.
