Police Log: Screaming Racoons, Fancy Dolls and Look-Alike Beetles

The following incident report is based on Brookline Police Department dispatch logs for Monday, July 12, through Thursday, July 15. Look for weekend incident reports each Monday and arrest logs each Tuesday on Brookline Patch.

Animal
  • A bat was reported in the living room of a house on Claflin Road a little before 5 p.m. on July 15.
  • A resident of Abbotsford Road reported a "screaming raccoon" entering her neighbor's roof around 12:30 p.m. on July 15.
  • A Freeman Street resident contacted police on July 13 to report concerns about how her neighbors were treating their puppy.
  • On July 14, someone reported what they thought was an Asian longhorn beetle on Riseley Road, but it turned out to be a June bug.
  • A bat was reported in a home on Prescott Street around 8:30 p.m. on July 13.
  • An Evans Road resident asked police for help with a squirrel that had gotten into the house on July 13.
  • An injured squirrel was reported near the high school on July 12
Breaking & Entering
  • A computer and jewelry were reported stolen from a building on Atherton Road around 2:30 p.m. on July 15.
  • A GPS unit was reported stolen from a Toyota Corolla parked on the 1700 block of Beacon Street around 10:30 a.m. on July 13. Police found no signs of forced entry.
Larceny
  • Employees at Brookline Fine Wine & Spirits in Brookline Village reported a shoplifting around 11:30 a.m. on July 15.
  • A grey Trek bicycle was reported stolen from a Stedman Street home on July 15.
  • On July 14, a Thorndike Street resident reported that several "fancy dolls" had been stolen from chairs on her front porch.
  • A table and chairs were reported missing from the common area of a condo building on Catlin Road.
  • Two lawn chairs were reported stolen from a side yard on the 1700 block of Beacon Street on July 14 .
  • A bike valued around $1,000 was reportedly stolen overnight from a basement on John Street on July 13,
  • A pocketbook was reported missing around 4 p.m. on July 13Β  at CafΓ© Japonaise.
  • A cellular device was reported missing at Newbury College on July 13.
  • On July 12, someone reported that a bike that had been leaning against a Cypress Street building was missing. The bike had not been locked.
  • A Dean Road resident reported that some important papers had gone missing while there were moving out on July 12. The believed the papers had been stolen.
Vandalism
  • Damage to the door and windows at 75 Harvard St. was reported on July 14.
