Police Wrestle Man off Woman During Egmont Street Attack

Officers reportedly saw man punch woman, throw her to the pavement.

A St. Paul Street man was arrested Sunday after police officers reportedly watched him punch a woman and throw her to the pavement in a basketball court off Egmont Street.

Police arrested Mohamed Hussien Noor, 24, of 327 St. Paul St. #2, just before 5 a.m. on July 4, and charged him with assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and resisting arrest.

Officers responding to reports of a fight on the basketball court behind 33 Egmont St. reportedly saw Noor punch a woman in the face with a closed fist. As officers sprinted toward the scene and shouted for Noor to stop, the man allegedly picked the woman up over his shoulder and slammed her to the pavement. Police say Noor jumped on the woman and tried to punch her again, but officers pulled him off.

Noor reportedly flailed about while officers tried to handcuff him and later refused to enter the patrol car. Β Officers said he was "argumentative and belligerent" when brought to the station and had to be placed in a cell until he sobered up.

The victim was bleeding heavily from the mouth but refused medical attention, according to a police report. Medical responders determined her injuries were not life threatening.

Witnesses could not tell police how the argument started, except to say Noor may have been sticking up for a woman who had been arguing with the victim. Officers reported that nearly everyone at the scene, including witnesses, the attacker and the victim, was intoxicated.
