Prosecutors Say New Evidence Proves Dorchester Man Killed Brookline High Graduate

Corey Patterson initially charged with accessory to murder following last year's killing in Allston.

Prosecutors have turned up new evidence they believe links a Dorchester man to the murder of a 24-year-old Brookline High graduate on an Allston street corner last year.

Corey Patterson, 23, is being held without bail on first-degree murder and five counts of assault and battery in connection with the murder of Gregory Phillips early last November. Patterson was arrested trying to leave the scene, but was charged only as an accessory to murder until today.

On the night of the murder, prosecutors say Phillips, a West Roxbury resident who had graduated from Brookline High and was working at Boston University, had been with his roommate and two female friends when he left a birthday party at The Kells, an Allston nightclub that has since closed.

According to prosecutors, Patterson got into an argument with Phillip's roommate after saying something to one of the female friends and Phillips moved to intervene. During the altercation, Patterson allegedly stabbed Phillips in the chest.

After police were called to the scene, Patterson allegedly punched and kicked officers as they pulled him from the vehicle in which he was reportedly trying to escape.

Patterson was arraigned the following day on the accessory charge and has remained in custody since. His case is expected to go to trail in September.
