Second Annual Brookline Town Open Puts Spotlight On Golf

The second annual Brookline Town Open, golf tournament, was held this weekend at the municipal course.

BROOKLINE, MA β€” Brookline's municipal golf course hosted its second Brookline Town Open golf tournament, a locally focused championship, complete with golf pros awarding the best male and female players at the end of the day Saturday, Sept. 28.

The idea, which began last year, was simply to bring the community together for a day of golf and to recognize the best players in Brookline, according to organizer and Head Golf Professional at the Robert T. Lynch Municipal Golf Course Tom Ellis.

And it's gained steam.

"With the success last year, we decided to continue with the event," said Ellis. Part of what helped push it to a second year, he said, was that several players asked at the start of the season about the tourney.

The tournament had nine different division winners who went home with nickel-plated sporting cup trophies and gift cards to the golf course. Some 65 players from the area played in the event.

Officials are already thinking about next year.

"We have a good foundation having hosted the tournament now twice which will help as we plan for 2020," said Ellis.

Congratulations to the winners:
