BROOKLINE, MA β€” If you need to take the D line in the evenings during the week, start looking for the shuttle buses. Beginning this week, after 8:30 p.m., shuttle buses will be replacing the D branch of the Green Line weeknights until April 5. But they'll be skipping Beaconsfield, so plan ahead.

It's part of an MBTA project to update and replace 6.5 miles of signal infrastructure and 25,000 feet of track Green Line track and signal systems. The initiative started in 2018 and is expected to continue into 2020.

Since March 11, MBTA contractors have been working overnight shifts Mondays – Fridays, 8:30 p.m. – 5 a.m., in Brookline between Brookline Hills and Reservoir stations. The weeknight work is expected to continue through Friday, April 5. The work is also scheduled for two more weekends after that: April 6 – 7, and April 20 – 21.

Starting the week of March 25, contractors will replace railroad ties and ballast.
The MBTA said the noisiest work will happen after 9 p.m., when the contractor is scheduled to cut the rails with a saw or torch. Expect more noise later in the project, when the track is being tamped to the proper elevation.

MBTA officials said because of narrow roads near Beaconsfield, shuttles can't safely stop there.
If you normally access the Green Line at Beaconsfield, they recommend walking 4 minutes to the Dean Road, station or 9 minutes to the Reservoir station in Cleveland Circle.
