Taco Bell With Booze Proposed For Brookline

The restaurant serving alcoholic drinks will be the first of its kind in Brookline.

BROOKLINE, MAβ€” Zaftig is selling its Wine and Malt Beverage License to Taco Bell, which is applying set up shop in Brookline. If approved, it will be Greater Boston's first Taco Bell Cantina, which serves alcoholic drinks.

The Taco Bell at 872 Commonwealth Ave. across from Boston University and along the B line, is hoping to be open weekends from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. and serve alcohol from noon to 1 a.m. Sunday and from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. the rest of the week.

The space, most recently a 7-Eleven, will have seating for 44, according to its application.

Taco Bell Cantina differs from regular locations by offering tapas-style, shareable appetizers along with traditional menu items, as well as alcoholic drinks like twisted freezes, beer and wine. Aside from the bar-style menu additions, the Cantina restaurants have open kitchens, digital menu boards and local artwork.Tailored toward urban and walkable communities, at least a dozen locations have opened in the U.S. Taco Bell hopes to open hundreds more in the coming years, according to Thrillist.
