The Last Week in Brookline: Aug. 23 to 29

Knitting for vets, heading off to war and learning to grow food.

We may be seeing the last beautiful days of summer, but the good towns people of Brookline aren't taking a break.

This week, we learned about two women who have put Brookline's knitters to work making sure veterans are warm this winter, and three teens learning the ins and outs of urban farming. We also met a Brookline fire fighter getting ready to ship off to Iraq, and a Brookline woman recently crowned Miss Massachusetts.

While softball players waited out the rain, we got a preview of the Dexter School's soccer season and learned about a new no-frills gym setting up shop on Commonwealth Avenue. We took a look inside Coolidge Corner's new butcher shop and heard about plans for a new center dedicated to the study and appreciation of Byzantine art and culture.

Brookline Police were kept busy chasing someone through Fisher Hill, following a trail of debris to a nearby drunk driver and searching for snakes on a train.

Oh, and did we mention we talked to the governor on Friday? Make sure to check that out too.
