Three Things to Do in Brookline This Weekend
Our Thursday preview of weekend happenings.
Take one look at the Brookline Patch Calendar and you'll see there's no shortage of things to keep you and your family busy this weekend. Here are a few of the happenings we're most excited about:
Brookline Access Television is hosting a daylong filming of a children's variety show called The Big Doozie Lil' Kids' Show on Saturday and they're looking for children ages 2 to 6 (and their parents) to populate the live studio audience. Hosted by Flooky the Robot Rockstar and Emma "The Go-Go Green" Bean, the three shows promise to entertain with "super cool children's bands and more!" Saturday, Oct. 9, 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. BATV Studios, 46 Tappan St., Top Floor Brookline. Free; Email Lauri@treetopartists.com to RSVP.
Join the Jumping MonkeysSpeaking of super cool children's bands: If you're under the age of 12, or live with some who is, you've probably already heard of Vanessa Trien & The Jumping Monkeys. The Brookline songwriter bills herself as a "rock star among the young at heart," And if you've been to one of her shows recently you know she's not just boasting. Catch Trien and the Monkeys this Sunday morning at the Coolidge Corner Theatre. Oct. 10, 10:10 a.m. Coolidge Corner Theatre, 290 Harvard St, Brookline. $9.75 adults, $7.75 kids.

Larz Anderson hosts a slew of car shows throughout the summer, but this is the one we wouldn't want you to miss. Though a major icon of 1960s culture and life, the Volkswagen's Transporter line is often overshadowed in automotive history by the cuter and more ubiquitous Beetle. From Splities and Bread Loaves to Campervans and Vanagons, these were cars that got people around. (Full disclosure: The editor of Brookline Patch drove a 1975 VW Bug from high school through college and still believes it was superior to every "modern" car he's owned since). Find out what the transporter was, and is, all about at Larz's Volkswagen Day and Transporterfest this Sunday. Oct. 10, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Larz Anderson Auto Museum, 15 Newton St. Brookline. Admission $10 adults, $5 children. Car registration $15.
