Three Things To Do In Brookline This Weekend

Our Friday preview of weekend happenings in Brookline.

Take one look at the Brookline Patch Calendar and you'll see there's no shortage of things to keep you and your family busy this weekend. Here are a few of the happenings we're most excited about:

Chow down for a good cause

Why waste your grub money at a fancy restaurant when you could give it good, local cause and still get fed? Brookline QUEST, an organization focused on providing opportunities for young adults with special needs, invites you to join them outside Brookline High School for their annual Family Barbecue and Field Event this Friday from 5:30 to 8 p.m. In addition to burgers, hot dogs and cupcakes from Party Favors, the event will include a soccer goal challenge, kickball game and Frisbee toss. Tickets are $10 each; children under 12 are free with a paying adult.

Face your fear of clowns

At least these freaky-faced creatures are small and inanimate (most of the time). The Puppet Showplace Theatre is hosting "Here come the Clowns," a show of vignettes featuring the work of master puppet maker Paul Vincent Davis, this Sunday at 1 and 2 p.m. Dusty, Zany and Pierrot will share their hapless adventures on stage, but don't worry – they're not going anywhere on their own.

Watch Britain and Japan battle it out

OK, it's not a competition, but we can't help but notice that Larz Andreson Auto Museum is hosting Japanese Car Day on the same weekend as MG Car Day (MG being a British sports car maker). Which former imperial power makes a better car? Go both days and decide for yourself. Registration is $20 to show your own car or $10 for spectators.
