Week in Revew: Feb. 14 - 18

Big fires, scary budgets and a bit of good news.

  • Monday brought an abrupt start to the news week as a broke out in 120-year-old home off Cypress Street and sent firefighters racing to the scene. Nobody was at home at the time, but battling the blaze and the building was left completely gutted. In non-fire news, we also talked with a Brookline woman running an out of her Walnut Street home and posted the latest installment of , which spurred a discussion about bullying and boyhood.
  • Β On Tuesday we shared the latest news about a Brookline librarian who was when an out-of-control driver crashed into her as she was walking down a Route 9 sidewalk last month. The librarian, Mary Bergman, is reportedly while recovering in a West Roxbury rehabilitation center and is using her amble stores of sick time while away, according to her box. In less good news, we also learned about a Rhode Island man suspected of , including three in Brookline, and a Brookline man suspected of last month. And if that wasn’t enough, Brookline released its budget for fiscal 2012 that showed that while , the schools will likely have to make some cuts next year.
  • Wednesday brought word that Brookline will have to its 16 precincts based on data from 2010 U.S. Census, an exercise that could cause some Town Meeting Members to lose their seats. And we reported on an ongoing effort to create a near the Lawrence School.
  • Things quieted down enough on Thursday that we were able to enjoy a new of Budda C on lower Beacon Street and a from behind the scenes of some Brookline flower and chocolate shops on Valentine’s Day.
