Weekend Police Log: Bats, Bats, Bats

Dispatch entries for July 23 – 25.

The following incident report is based on Brookline Police Department dispatch logs for Friday, July 23, through Sunday, July 25. Look for weekday incident reports each Saturday and arrest logs each Tuesday on Brookline Patch.

Animal
  • A bat was found in a Osbourne Road basement where a child was sleeping late on July 25. The animal had apparently become stuck between two doors.
  • A bat was removed from an apartment on Powel Road and taken to a state lab for testing on July 25.
  • Police received reports of a bat caught between two windows on the 400 block of Washington Street on July 25. The animal had not had contact with humans.
  • Another bat was trapped in a bedroom on Alton Court, but had no contact with humans.
  • A poodle was reportedly wandering around Gibbs Street and Naples Road around 2:30 p.m. on July 24.
  • A child was reportedly bit by a dog near Beacon and Winchester streets around noon on July 23.
  • A sick opossum was spotted in a barrel around 9:30 a.m. on July 23.
Breaking & Entering
  • Around 5:30 p.m. on July 25, police reported that someone smashed the driver-side window of a car on Newton Street and apparently tried to remove a rear door. The owner was notified.
  • A resident on the 1200 block of Beacon Street contacted police just before midnight on July 24 after she came home to find all her closet doors open. Officers reported that a real estate agent may have entered apartment to take photos.
  • An apartment on Chestnut Street was ransacked on July 24 and the doors kicked in, thought nothing appeared to be missing.
Lost & Found
  • A passerby reported finding a passport and pocketbook on July 25.
  • A Texas drivers license was reported missing on July 24.
  • A black trunk with metal rims was spotted near a "Do Not Enter" sign at Strathmore Road and Beacon Street around 1:15 p.m. on July 24.
  • Someone called police to report that they were looking for a Dell Inspiron Netbook left at the Coolidge Corner Panera Bread on July 22.
Hit & Run
  • A woman told police someone driving a tan Honda struck her car on High Street around 4:30 p.m. on July 23 and refused to stop.
Larceny
  • Two pairs of shoes were reportedly taken from a porch on the 700 block of Washington Street sometime before 2:30 p.m. on July 23
  • A woman reported stole a $600 deposit off a counter at Friendly's Express around 1:30 p.m. on July 23.
  • An employee at Bler Travel on Harvard Street reported that a customer had cancelled a check for $2500 on July 23.
Misc.
  • Police were called to Francis Street just after midnight on July 25 after a caller reported an apparent fight between 13 or so people who appeared to be about high school age.
