Weekend Police Log: Resident Dumps Pool into Neigbors' Yards

The following incident report is based on Brookline Police Department dispatch logs for Friday, Oct. 1, through Sunday, Oct. 3. Look for weekday incident reports each Saturday and arrest logs each Tuesday on Brookline Patch.

Best of the Blotter
  • A Brookline health inspector ordered a Fernwood Road resident to stop emptying their pool after a neighbor reported that it was flooding backyards and nearby streets on Sept. 2.
  • A UPS delivery driver told police that he tried to deliver a package on Winthrop Road on Sept. 1, but the recipient refused to sign for it and tried to take his electronic package tracker from him instead. When police contacted the recipient, he told them that the deliver driver had made "angry racial comments" and had refused to deliver any more packages to his house.
Animal
  • Road kill of an undetermined variety was reported near the intersection of Dummer and Amory streets just after midnight on Sept. 3. The Highway Division was called in to clean up the mess.
Burglary
  • Employees at CVS reported that a man tried to get into a room at the back of the store around 6:45 p.m. on Sept. 3.
  • An Upland Road resident came home around 5:30 a.m. on Sept. 3 and found the rear door of his house open and a TV stand pulled away from the wall with all the wires pulled out.
Theft
  • A 22-year-old Dorchester man was arrested around 5 p.m. on Sept. 3 after reportedly shoplifting from Trader Joe's in Coolidge Corner.
  • The owner of a construction company reported that he had leant a work vehicle to a former employee and is now unable to get it back. He told police he suspected the vehicle is in Florida.
Lost & Found
  • Someone reported finding a black youth mountain bike in the bushes behind a building at 110 Cypress St. on Sept 2. The next day, someone reported finding a racing bike in the driveway of 44 Cypress St.
  • A back bag with a brown ladies wallet and several personal items was found on the sidewalk near Dean Park around 11 a.m. on Sept. 1.
Misc.
  • A caller reported finding blood inside an ATM vestibule on Harvard Street. A responding officer reported that it was a small amount of dried blood and a maintenance crew was already cleaning it up.
  • Police received a call about a "very upset" employee threatening a manager at Brueggers Bagels on Sept. 2.
  • The owner of a Harvard Avenue daycare reported that a dentist who shares her building called to say she had taken chemicals from a company cleaning the day care and dumped them on the street because of the noise they were making. A responding officer reported that the chemicals were stacked neatly on the side of the building.
  • Police received call about a "large amount of water coming up from the ground" in front of a house on Kent Street on Sept. 2.
  • An 18-year-old was arrested for being a minor in possession of alcohol after police received a report of a fight in progress on University Road on Sept. 2.
