Weekend Police Log: Three-Foot Chess Piece Snatched from Hotel

The following incident report is based on Brookline Police Department dispatch logs for Friday, Aug. 20, through Sunday, Aug 22. Look for weekday incident reports each Saturday and arrest logs each Tuesday on Brookline Patch.

Best of the Blotter
  • An employee at the Holiday Inn on Beacon Street reported that two men had grabbed a three-foot-tall chess piece from the lobby and ran down St. Paul Street on Aug. 20. Two suspects were reportedly identified and will be summonsed to court.
  • Police were called to Beacon and St. Mary's streets after a cab driver for Hello Taxi refused to turn over the cab he was driving to the company's owner. Officers reported that the confrontation was the result of a contract dispute and had been resolved.
Lost & Found
  • A man reported that he accidentally left his wallet at Anna's Taqueria on Aug. 21, but no one had turned it in when he went back.
  • A woman from Texas told police she accidentally left her wallet in a cab that had taken her from Beacon Hill to Fairbanks Street on Aug. 22, but couldn't remember which cab company it belonged to. She said she had a flight the next day and needed the identification that was in the wallet.
Larceny
  • A Strathmore Road resident reported that a package with a $105 camera inside was stolen off his porch sometime on Aug. 21.
  • An Apple laptop, iPad and phone were reportedly stolen on Chestnut Hill Avenue on Aug. 21, possibly through an open window.
Misc.
  • A Dean Road resident complained of a marijuana smell in their apartment building on Aug. 21. Officers reportedly spoke to a neighbor and advised them of the complaint.
