Weekend Police Log: Wacky Skunks, Missing Garden Hoses and Sanctioned Vandalism

The following incident report is based on Brookline Police Department dispatch logs for Friday, July 16, through Sunday, July 18. Look for weekday incident reports each Saturday and arrest logs each Tuesday on Brookline Patch.

Assault and Battery
  • On July 17, police were contacted about an incident in which a student punched someone in the head a week and half earlier at the Ivy Street School.
Larceny
  • Someone came into the police station around 11:30 p.m. on July 18 to reported that a bike had been stolen from the 500 block of Harvard Street.
  • A bag with an iPhone in it was stolen from the field by the High School on July 16 while its owner was at football practice.
  • A motorized bicycle worth more than $1,000 was reported stolen from St Paul Street side of the Dexter Park Apartments around 6: 45 p.m. on July 18. The owner told police the bike had been locked.
  • A driver's license, credit cards and cash were stolen from a wallet in the Kirrane Aquatics Center around 11 a.m. on July 18. The owner reported that their credit card was used fraudulently following the theft.
  • A wallet was reported stolen from the Puttterham Circle Starbuck's around 1 p.m. on July 18. The owner reported that their credit card was used fraudulently following the theft.
  • A garden hose was reported stolen from a Clark Road home around 11 a.m. on July 17.
Found Property
  • A baseball glove was turned in to the front desk at the police station on July 18.
  • A woman's wallet was found in a Harvard Street pay phone on July 18. Police were able to contact the owner's daughter.
  • Two bikes were recovered from the 1200 block of Beacon Street on July 16.
Breaking & Entering
  • Police received a call about two children who appeared to be trying to break into a home on Walnut Street around 7:30 p.m. on July 18. A park employee told police the children had kicked a ball onto the property and were trying to retrieve it.
Animal
  • An injured bird was reported in a yard on Beaconsfield Road around noon on July 18.
  • Police received a call about a dispute between a dog owner and a pedestrian on Pond Street just before 10 a.m. on July 18. The owner told police the pedestrian had kicked their dog, while the pedestrian said the animal had "charged" his family and he had pushed it away.
  • Police were called to Atherton Road a little before 10 a.m. on July 18 on reports that a mixed-breed dog had attacked a cat. The dog and its owner had left the scene by the time officers arrived.
  • A bat was reported in the hallway of a Rawson Road home around noon on July 17. The animal reportedly had no exposure with humans.
  • A bird reportedly "crashed" into the Verizon store on Harvard Street sometime before 10:30 a.m. on July 16.
  • Police received reports of a skunk acting "wacky" and rolling around behind a building on the 1400 block of Beacon Street on July 16.
Hit & Run
  • Someone driving a grey Toyota reportedly struck a car near Park and Washington streets and fled toward Centre Street on July 16.
  • A black Hummer reportedly struck a car in the Lynch Recreation Center parking lot shortly before 10 a.m. on July 16 and fled on Brookline Avenue towards Washington Street.
  • On July 16, the owner of Blue Mazda ProtΓ©gΓ© parked near Brookline Place returned to find the vehicle had been scratched and dented.
Vandalism
  • The property manger for the St. Aiden's condominiums on Pleasant Street contacted police a little after 11 a.m. on July 16 to report damage to a garage door.
  • A utility worker contacted police around 10 a.m. on July 16 to reported that all of the windows of a Clyde Street home had been broken. Officers contacted the property owners, who said he allowed his children to break the windows because he intended to demolish the house.
  • Employees at Catering by Andrew contacted police early on July 16 to report that someone had tagged a company truck with graffiti. The suspect was reportedly caught on tape.
