Weekend Police Logs: Damaged Sculpture and A Squirrel in Hot Pursuit

The following incident report is based on Brookline Police Department dispatch logs for Friday, July 30, through Sunday, Aug 1. Look for weekday incident reports each Saturday and arrest logs each Tuesday on Brookline Patch.

Larceny
  • Police were called to the Radio Shack on Commonwealth Avenue around 6 p.m. on Aug. 1 after employees reported that two laptops and nine cameras had gone missing. The employees told police that a man and woman with a stroller had been seen hovering over the laptops an hour and a half earlier.
  • A "bag and money" were reported missing from the 1200 block of Beacon Street late on July 31.
  • A man was arrested after allegedly shoplifting from the CVS at 400 Washington Street around 6:15 p.m. on July 31.
  • A Pleasant Street resident called police around noon on July 30 to report that a Rolex watch and box had gone missing from his room, which he is subletting out for the summer.
Animal
  • A dead raccoon was reported in the in the roadway on the St. Paul Street around 5:30 on Aug. 1.
  • Police were called to the 1200 block of Beacon Street on reports of a bat inside a building on Aug. 1, but there was no reported exposure and the bat was discarded before police arrived.
  • An injured cat was reported in the roadway nearly Walnut Street and Walnut Path around 3 p.m. on July 31.
  • Someone called police around 2:30 p.m. on July 31 to report a squirrel "chasing" children around a fountain on Hammond Street.
  • A sick opossum was reported on Cleveland Road on July 31.
Lost and found
  • Someone turned in a passport reportedly found on University Road around 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 1.
  • An ATM card and other property were found in an ATM vestibule on the 1600 block of Beacon Street on July 30.
Vandalism
  • A sculptured in the front yard of a Centre Street home was reportedly damaged by vandals.
  • A broken window at a Chestnut Street apartment was reported late on July 30.
