Weekend Police Logs: Homeless Person Gets Comfy in Harvard Street Basement

The following incident report is based on Brookline Police Department dispatch logs for Friday, Feb. 25, through Sunday, Feb. 27. Look for weekday incident reports each Saturday and arrest logs each Tuesday on Brookline Patch.

Best of Blotter
  • The landlord of a building near the Allston line on Harvard Street called police around 1:45 p.m. on Feb. 27 and complained that a homeless person appeared to have broken into a basement storage room and started living there. The landlord said tenants had been hearing a radio and a neighbor observed someone with a scraggily man with red hair and a beard.
Burglary
  • Someone broke into a car parked near Brookline Ice & Coal on Brookline Avenue sometime between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Feb. 27.
  • A GPS unit and three-way adapter were stolen from a car parked near Pearl Street and Brookline Avenue around 4:15 p.m. on Feb. 25.
  • A neighbor reportedly witnessed someone breaking into a flatbed truck in a auto repair lot off Cypress Street and taking several items on Feb. 24 or 25.
Violent Crime
  • Officers were sent to 1 Harvard St. around 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 27 after police received reports of a man punching a woman in a car. The car was stopped in the Stop & Shop parking lot and the man arrested.
  • Police received reports of nine to 10 girls fighting at Pine Manor College on Feb. 27.
  • Someone reported that nine teenage girls were loitering outside Panera Bread around 8:45 p.m. on Feb. 26 and threatening to beat up other girls inside the restaurant.
  • A patient at Bournewood Hospital on South Street reportedly threatened to kill another patient on Feb. 26.
Misc.
  • A Cypress Street resident called police on Feb. 27 and said she wanted a restraining order against her landlord. The caller said the landlord had been harassing her and that she had been told in the past to contact police if he returned.
  • A woman called police on Feb. 26 to reported that a man with long hair, a black dog and β€œmessed up teeth” had threatened her over parking issues.
