Adam Gillingham, 35, of Burlington

BURLINGTON, MA - Adam Gillingham left us too soon; he was just 35 years young. Adam was born in Waltham, the son of Robert and Sharon (Whitaker) Gillingham.

He grew up in Burlington and graduated from Burlington High School Class of 1999 where he excelled in soccer and lacrosse. He went onto graduate from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business and Marketing.

Adam, like many Americans, was deeply moved by the events of September 11, 2001 and enlisted in the Army to serve and protect his Country. He was a combat medic serving in the 101st Airborne serving for four and half years in Korea and then in Iraq. He held the rank of Specialist. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, 2 Army Achievement Medals, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Combat Medical Badge, and Combat Action Medal. He was very proud of his military service, being an Army Veteran, and protecting and defending freedom in the United States and around the world.

Adam had worked as a recruiter for the technology sector. He was an avid Patriots fan and enjoyed competing with his friends in fantasy football. He was a loving and caring father to his two sons. He enjoyed reading to them and playing with them. He would let down his guard and cherish the joy they gave to him on a daily basis. He enjoyed weekends spent in Lebanon, Maine with his family. He had a wide variety and bit eclectic taste in music. He had his special four legged companion, Sadie, a 9-year-old Boxer. He will be remembered for his love for his family, his mischievous and comical demeanor, and leaving this world much too early.

Adam was the husband of Kimberly (Everett). He was the loving father of Cameron and Brayden of Nashua. He was the son of late Sharon (Whitaker) Gillingham and Robert Gillingham & his wife Ann Marie of Burlington. He was the brother of Jesse of Oakland, CA, Nathan of Burlington, and Meryl of Dracut. He was the fun uncle of Tyler, Liam, Nate, Connor, Brody, Keira, Joaquin, Tommy, Hadley, Melanie and Selah. Adam was also survived by loving in-laws and step sisters, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington on Friday, April 22 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m.

Visiting hours Thursday at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. Cremation will follow the funeral services.
