Boy Scout Troop 103 welcomes Girls into Scouting Program
Burlington Boy Scout Troop Opens Program to Girls
Burlington Scout Troop 103 (Scouts BSA) is pleased to announce that they will be accepting girls into their scouting program in September 2018. This is in concert with the Boy Scouts’ national policy change to move to a coed scouting program across the country and is aligned with Troop 103’s goals and objectives. The addition of girls within the program is expected to work well with the established program and provide the opportunity of the Scout curriculum to all youth, including the opportunity to earn the Eagle Scout rank.
Burlington Scout Troop 103 is a long-established scouting program that provides young adults a unique opportunity to develop and excel in leadership and outdoor skills. The troop meets once a week, on Tuesdays at Fox Hill School to work on advancement and leadership. Twenty Troop 103 Scouts have earned the Eagle Scout rank in the last 5 years. The Troop also participates in at least one overnight outdoor adventure a month. The adventures range from hiking Mt. Monadnock to competing in a New England Orienteering Club event and from snowshoeing at the Lonesome Lake Appalachian Trail hut to honing winter camping skills at the Klondike Derby.
“The opportunities afforded to boys should also be provided to girls. Separate-but-equal can now just be equal.” says David Woodilla, the Troop Committee Chairman. “We didn’t need to think very long about making this change, but we have thought hard about how to make this program change successful.” Steve Green, the Scoutmaster says “This is really a great opportunity for boys, and now girls, to get out and work on skills that will last a lifetime” “We are looking forward to another great scouting year and welcome anybody who would like to take a look at our program, boy or girl, to come to our meetings and check it out.”
