One Dead In Burlington Fire On Maryvale Road

BURLINGTON, MA — One person died in a fire on Burlington's Maryvale Road Thursday, Burlington public safety officials confirmed. Fire and police officials responded to 26 Maryvale Road around 1 p.m., for a report of a house fire with people inside. One occupant had been rescued by the time first responders arrived, but another remained inside.

First responders found heavy smoke coming from the windows of the house, and flames coming from the front window, according to a release. A male neighbor and a delivery man had helped an elderly woman escape, and she was taken to a nearby hospital with serious hospitals. The delivery driver and a Burlington police officer were also taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation.

Firefighters tried to find the second occupant, a man, but were unable to do so due to the conditions. Firefighters continued to fight the fire. The man was later found dead, inside. He has not yet been identified.

Fire departments from Billerica, Woburn and Bedford provided mutual aid. State Fire Marshal investigators and the town building inspector are on the scene. The home was destroyed.

Eversource has cut power to the home.

The fire is being investigated by the Burlington Fire Department and State Police assigned to both the Office of the State Fire Marshal and to the Middlesex County District Attorney.
