Burlington Native Drafted by Pittsburgh Pirates

A Burlington native has been selected in the 2017 Major League Baseball Draft

Outfielder Chris Sharpe, who just completed his second year at UMass Lowell, was selected in the 14th round of the draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

During the 2017 season, Sharpe batted .338 with 44 hits, 35 runs, and 17 home runs.

"Chris Sharpe getting drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates is a tremendous example of what hard work does," UMass Lowell coach Ken Harring said in a release. "The Pirates are not only going to have the opportunity to sign a great player, but more importantly, a great person. We could not be more proud of his development."

In his two years at UMass Lowell, Sharpe batted .276 with 83 hits, 64 runs, eight homers, 44 RBI. In the field, he only committed four errors to record a .979 fielding percentage.
