Burlington Revises Outdoor Dining Rules For Safety And Noise

The Board of Selectmen voted Monday to approve changes requested by the Planning Board.

BURLINGTON, MA — Burlington restaurants offering outdoor dining will have to follow a couple of additional protocols, under an amendment to the outdoor dining regulations passed by the Board of Selectmen Monday evening.

When dining areas are in parking spaces or streets, businesses will be required to provide barriers to protect diners from cars. Town officials noted that this could include anything the restaurants have, including employee cars or wood pallets or bundles.

The new rules also limit music or TVs within 200 feet of residences.

In addition to the strict rules, the new protocols ask that restaurants use reservations whenever possible, and limit the time diners spend at their tables, to reduce exposure.
